Rope Walk is so named because of the rope-making industry that used to be here in Hamble.

The street was formally known as Back Street and contains the historic house, the Old Coffee House dating from 1876 (marked in the lintel below)

The Coffee Rooms were built as a home for the elderly by the Hon Mrs Eliot Yorke. They were used as the Hamble Reading Rooms in the early 1900's.
