C.I.U Final 28th September 2008 On Challenger 1 Mile South Of The Needles
Hamble Sea Angling Club - 73lb
Everton And Lymore Club - 60 1/2lb
The skipper of Challenger, Mike Cottingham was actually fishing for The Everton Team, so The Hamble Team guessed they might be in for a tough match and so it proved to be.
The Hamble Team of Tony Spridgeon, Rob Shattock, Ray Ashby and Eddie Fleat were in their twelth final and this was the closest they've come to being beaten.
The Everton Team of Pete Snow, Lionel Sullivan, John Sloper and Mike Cottingham took an early lead with some nice size Whiting, Pout and a couple of Doggies, but Hamble then went ahead at the hour mark with the same species plus Eddie Fleat had a Pollack of 5lb.
Hamble always had the edge from then on in terms of number of fish caught but the Everton Team never gave up and when John Sloper had a 3lb Codling and Lionel Sullivan had a 4lb Brill it made it an exciting finish.
At the final whistle:
Hamble had 36 Whiting, 41 Pout, 13 Dogfish, 1 Pollack, and 1 Scad for a 92 fish total.
Everton had 24 Whiting, 37 Pout, 6 Dogfish, 1 Codling, 1 Brill and 1 Scad for a 70 fish total.
