The Hamble Lifeboat

Hamble Lifeboat celebrated its 30th Anniversary in the year 2000.  A group of local residents, anglers, and boating enthusiasts formed the service in response to an increasing number of accidents and fatalities in the Hamble, Southampton Water and mid Solent areas.

As an independent lifeboat service, licensed by the MCA, Hamble Lifeboat has a Board of Trustees that administers the charity.  A management committee reports to the Board of Trustees under the leadership of Trevor Wood and is responsible for all the operational aspects of the service and for raising the majority of funds from local sources.

Appeal Information

Hamble Independent Lifeboat is an invaluable local voluntary service on the Solent which has been running since 1968 set up by local residents in response to the increasing number of casualties in Southampton Water, River Hamble, Test and Itchen. Since its inception the service has on average attended 100 incidents per year, day and night 365 days a year.  Due to the increased use of these areas this number increases yearly.

The Crew of Hamble Lifeboat is made up of volunteers who brave all weather conditions to search for the missing and those stranded in the Solent.  We currently have a small station on the foreshore in Hamble that is in desperate need of modernisation. We currently have no hot water, showers, heating, or changing facilities, nowhere to hang safety equipment to dry or to store it properly. Our crew training ashore stand outside year round due to lack of indoor training space. Now that is dedication. Lack of space makes maintenance of our 2 Halmatic Pacific 32 ribs  tricky, they have to be virtually dismantled to get one in the shed at a time.

Our Aim

To raise funds through this campaign towards the much needed  £450k new lifeboat station.
To ensure this invaluable service remains prominent on Solent Waters by raising maintenance funds
Raise the profile and awareness of the Independent service through local support

How can you help?

We extremely grateful for donations however small, which will go towards the £450k needed to build the new station and the future running of this invaluable service, this service is relied upon by both commercial and pleasure users of the Solent waters.
